As ITFA Rockhampton prepare for their second ITFA Grading and Training with Senior Master Rhee this weekend, here’s a reminder of a great weekend back in May cut short by the early arrival of Senior Master Rhee’s son Marcus!
“On the weekend of the 14th May 2016, Senior Master (S.M.) Andrew Kang-Hae Rhee, Founder of ITFA, attended Rockhampton for two 3 hour training sessions and the 1st Colour Belt Grading for the year for the Rockhampton area.
Good attendance was shown for the pre-grading class on Saturday morning, where S.M. Rhee ran through pattern work, technical correction and fundamental techniques. It was a great chance for those students who had not met S.M. Rhee to get to know him and see the depth of knowledge ITFA
After lunch, 20 students ranging from beginner to 1st Kup were put through their paces in front of S.M. Rhee with IV Dan Regional Instructor, Evan Pritchard assisting on the Grading table. Mr Darrin Nunn (1st Dan) had his first opportunity at calling an ITFA Grading, with Mr Ray Wehlow (1st Dan) attending to all the background work.
All of the grading students performed well and were given individual instruction at the table from S.M. Rhee at the conclusion of their Grading. Under request from Mr Pritchard, S.M. Rhee then ran the 2nd and 1st Kups through a pre-grading, covering patterns, step sparring, fundamental
techniques and 1 Vs 1, 2 Vs 1 free sparring. All students were then given feedback to progress them towards their future Black Belt Grading.
At the end of the examination, the successful students were presented with their certificates of promotion, with belt presentations scheduled for general class the following week. A group photograph was then taken and all students and parents
had the opportunity to meet S.M. Rhee and have individual photos.
Sunday training was scheduled for 9am to midday for all 2nd Kups and above. As with all good plans, one must be adaptable, as late Saturday night, S.M. Rhee was advised that Marcus Boulton Hong-Jae Rhee was on his way. After an eventful night and some quick flight rearrangement, class commenced at 10am, with the students having warmed up and trained under Mr Nunn and Mr Wehlow.
S.M.Rhee ran through pattern work, focussing on the understanding of the applications of fundamental movements for each
pattern attended. All senior students were grateful for the time and attention given by S.M.Rhee and wished S.M.Rhee all the best for himself and Ms Boulton-Smith in their new promotion to parents.
A successful trip on all accounts and the Rockhampton area is looking forward to the next visit/Grading, scheduled for the
weekend of August the 20th.
